Deeper 06:53
We used to know that we could be More than just you and me. Imagine if there’s a richer way. Do we have the faith do give ourselves away? Let’s live in a land that is more overgrown, Take hold of a hand that’s more real than my own. Let’s live in a world that’s deeper, deeper. Instead of a world that is cheaper, cheaper. Let’s live in a world that is holy. We used know that this world could be More than just what we see. Imagine if there’s a deeper place, A hidden road of ground and grace. Back to the dust, back to the water. Back to the breath, Sons and daughters.

You hate nothing you have made, Even when we turn away. We are cloaked in darkest gloom; There is no shadow of turning with you. There is no shadow of turning with you. Rend your hearts and not your garments. Tell the people come: Bring your children, even infants come, Return to the holy one, O come, return to the Son, Our sick and wicked ways you know. With broken hearts we bow down low. We remember we are dust. God of mercy, do not turn your face from us. Oh God of mercy, do not turn your face from us. Full of grace, full of mercy, Slow to anger, abounding in love without end.

Feathers 02:53
Hope is the thing with feathers That perches in the soul, And sings the tune--without the words, And never stops at all, And never stops at all. And sweetest in the gale is heard; And sore must be the storm That could abash the little bird That kept so many warm. That kept so many warm. I've heard it in the chillest land, And on the strangest sea; Yet, never, in extremity, It asked a crumb of me. It asked a crumb of me.

Restless 05:06
You’ve been out wandering a while, Living the lie since the day you were born. It’s easy to see by the skin round your smile, you are worn. You hold your ambitions so tight; You fingers are clenched and your knuckles are white. Your dreams turned to nightmares; I said that I thought that they might. You’ve been away for far too long. There’s a peace and gratitude When the day is done and I’m holding on to you, Safe from the thieves of our self-doubt. Come on home boy, Where love is found. There’s a story that you’re living in; You’ve heard it from salesmen and preachers and kin. But the longer you live it the more that feel you don’t fit. Our hearts are restless 'til they find their way back home. So let’s just stay in for the night, Wait out the thunder that thickens the sky. Blow out the candles, it’s still and it’s dark; we’ll be fine,

Last Night 04:59
Can you see it in my eyes? The girl that once upon a time You dressed in white to be your bride. Can you see it in my face, that baby we’re not keeping pace? And it’s not right that we be left behind. We fell in love again last night, Lit some candles put a record on. And while Ella sang Cole Porter songs, We kissed each other deep and long. I’d forgotten how this heart can feel. I’d forgotten what was really real. So remind me how this goes, And let’s fall in love some more. Let’s have a feast; let’s holiday. Let’s pack our bags and fly away. I’d change everything but you and me. I’ll put on a brand new dress. I’ll give you my Sunday’s best If you let go of everything but me. Dance me, romance me. When you’re with me, everything will be alright. Protect me, resurrect me. ‘Cause baby, you’re everything I need tonight. And I’ll show you, what I was made to do. And I’ll show you, what I was made to do.

Whispers 03:32
Secrets subtracting the space in between, Conspirators deep in a scheme, Confessions of king to his queen. Sovereign, time and space to control, The magic to make a new soul, The power to present us whole. Da da da da…. Whirlwind, the passion of body and voice, Of lives unified in their choice, To share in lament and rejoice. Whispers flutter from tongue tip to ear, So softly that only two hear, A confidence none other shares. A fellowship casting out fear, Broken, beautiful bodies of rust, Transcendent descendants of dust, Who choose to give, to trust.

Better Days 04:38
Heaven seems so far away. We’re living down here in the basement; We can’t tell if it’s night or if it’s day. And all the angels that we know Have long since climbed up Jacob’s ladder 'Cause they can’t answer, “What’s the matter?” We were born with knives for hands. All I want is for you to hold me, But it hurts too much—I’ve got let you go. And I’ll be climbing up the stairs. My tears will fall like april showers; You’ll find me in the wildflowers. We were made for better days. We were made for better days. We were made for better days. Just hold on. Jesus will you hold her in your arms? Until I make it up there to her, I guess that you’ll have to be her father. We could use a father too. We’re orphans and we feel the sting; Adoption's more than we can swing. I’m not ready to let you go, love. I’m not ready to let you go. I’m not ready to let you go Because I know...

We’ve been here before, we’ve opened up the door. Now we’re scared to death to hope for breath. Word on the street, can you hear the beat? It’s the sweetest sound, when it can be found. Oh, Oh Life is not our own, But baby, you are mine And always will be. The twenty-fifth of May would be the birthday That was never born, a time to mourn. One twenty-three, I guess we’ll see. And my stomachs sick, but I felt a kick. We don’t choose our name. We don’t choose our grave. Those come from up above, but we choose to love. So let’s make a list of all the ways love is a risk: It could get you killed. Blood and tears you’ve spilled. It could get you saved; in the end only love remains.

Homegrown 03:49
Our love is homegrown, simple and sweet, Dusted with the patter of little feet. Let it grow tall, touch the sky In the warmth of summer, in the wind and the rain. And I’d rather be here, rather be here Than anywhere else in the world. You can’t manufacture love like this In a plastic package of domestic bliss. No, we grow in batches small and slow, Formed by little moments infused with grace. Let the fruit of our love last through the winter. Store it in jars; place in the cellar. It will sustain us when the nights grow long, As we tell the stories of better days to come. May the Father be welcomed here To tend his harvest in our hearts and homes. May the hungry come in from the fields And feast at the table he will provide.

For the beauty of the earth, For the beauty of the skies, For the love which from our birth Over and around us lies, Lord of all, to thee we raise This our grateful hymn of praise. For the joy of human love, Brother, sister, parent, child, Friends on earth, and friends above, Pleasures pure and undefiled, Lord of all, to thee we raise This our grateful hymn of praise. For thy Church which evermore Lifteth holy hands above, Offering up on every shore Her pure sacrifice of love, Lord of all, to thee we raise This our grateful hymn of praise. For each perfect gift of thine, To our home so freely given, Graces human and divine, Flowers of earth and buds of heaven, Lord of all, to thee we raise This our grateful hymn of praise.

about

This album grew from domestic roots and was created in the mundane spaces of life, the cracks in which we see the hope of better days. Here, we hunker down, aching and waiting and praying for redemption. And in the waiting, we try--and oh, how we wrestle--to grow beautiful fruit that nourishes others and feeds our own souls.

These songs were written late at night while children slept, or at the park while they played. They were recorded in basements, churches, and at our clunky baby grand piano. They are full of simple, little seeds of truth about a world that's so much deeper than we realize; we only need to become young and wide-eyed enough to see its depth.

Friends surrounded us on this journey, and for that we are extremely grateful. We've tested the waters of these songs in the safety of a series of house shows. During the recording process, we've also walked alongside Dan Fager, who is releasing his first EP. Dan, thank you for your friendship, ideas, and amazing tunes.

In addition to our wonderful musicians (who are listed below), we'd like to thank the following people for their particular, and often peculiar, contributions:

Caleb Lindgren (Engineering and some of everything else)
Johannah Swank (Engineering)
Brian Porick (Coaching on the final mixes)
Blade Barringer (Equipment and troubleshooting)
Steve Smith (Equipment)
Ryn Manby (Photography)
David Vosburg (Videography)

Robb and Meghan Robins (For hosting and Italian sodas)
Toyland Studios (For helping us more than you know)
Dan and Lori Carlson (For hosting our hymn sing)
Everyone who has hosted a house show (Todd Kelsey, Joel and Kate Miller, Dan and Lori Carlson, Matt and Lindsey Learn)

Matt and Wesley Woodley (Babysitting)
Rachel Willoughby (Babysitting)
Karisa and Johnmark Smith (Even more babysitting)

And of course, to Church of the Resurrection, for being a community of support. Thank you for letting us create art within your walls of love; they are thick and safe, yet offer a surprising amount of freedom. We are grateful.
